Talk:Islam in Egypt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think this article should be trimmed down to address specifically "Islam in Egypt" and remove all reference to other subjects, or details that do not belong here. If one needs to know about a specific aspect of Islam, one should refer to the articles on Islam and the details of its laws and practices. A.Khalil 19:48, Jan 29, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] I don't agree
I think that there is not one form of Islam and it is interesting to examine how each country is diverse especially in this case the where the Islamic Sharia is active in the civil code and in certain aspects is clearly against basic human rights e.g. the freedom for one to choose his religion or even not to have one or the freedom for women to marry who they wish even if the person is from a different religion, the fact that no non Muslim may become president of Egypt or that Christian widows of Muslims have no right to inherit.
[edit] Status of Religious Freedom
I think this portion of the article is to be moved to a more general topic that discusses religion as a whole in Egypt such as Religion in Egypt. Adding it there would be more in line with the content since it discusses Egyptian christians and other non-muslims. Ahmed Mohamed , Mar 2, 2006
