International Institute for Communication and Development

The International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) is a non-profit foundation that specialises in information and communication technologies (ICT) (ICTs) as a tool for sustainable development.
IICD assists various countries in Africa, Latin-America and the Caribbean to improve development within the fields of education, environment, good governance, health and livelihood opportunities.
IICD brings knowledge, innovation and finance together with partners from the public sector, private and non-profit sectors. Support takes place through assisting local partner organisations to make effective use of ICTs on their own terms, as well as by catalysing lessons learned and knowledge sharing on ICTs by linking local organisations and the international community.
IICD should not be confused with the Institute for International Cooperation and Development [1], which also uses the acronym IICD.

The Institute, which is based in The Hague, is active in nine developing countries: Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Ecuador, Ghana, Jamaica, Mali, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

IICD supports policy processes and projects involving the use of ICTs in the following sectors: health, education, "livelihoods" (mainly agriculture), and governance.
[edit] Funding
IICD receives funding from the Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS) of The Netherlands, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
