The Infiniti G37 is a luxury car by Infiniti. The coupe version was unveiled at the 2007 New York International Auto Show[1] and is currently available for sale as a 2008 model.[2] The G37 coupe, like its predecessor the G35 Coupe, is marketed simply as the G Coupe making it more of a second generation than a replacement. Although available a year later, the G37 parallels the 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan (marketed as the G Sedan). In Japan, the G37 will join the updated G Sedan under the Nissan Skyline (V36) nameplate.[3]
G37 sedan was unveiled in Geneva Motor Show for the European market.[4]. It features the same basic engine as the G37 coupe, but engine power was reduced to 306 hp and 258 ft-lb of torque.[5]
Infiniti has confirmed that a G37 retractable hardtop convertible is being planned. A February 2009 release is expected for the US market.[6]

[edit] Exterior
While the 2008 G37's exterior styling is all new, the vehicle bears resemblance to its 2007 G sedan counterpart, as well as the previous generation G coupe. 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels are standard, and 19-inch (480 mm) wheels are optional. [7]

According to an early review, much of the interior appears to be closely tailored after that of the 2007 G35 sedan.[8]
[edit] Engine
A new engine, the VQ37VHR, replaces the VQ35DE 3.5 liter engine used in the previous generation. It shares improvements with the G Sedan's VQ35HR. The 3.7 liter DOHC 24-valve V-6 powerplant is rated at 330 hp (246 kW) and 270 lb·ft (366 N·m) of torque with a 7,500 rpm redline. This is also the first engine to use Nissan's Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) technology in the US.[7]
Early dynamometer readings conducted during a magazine test indicate that the G37 manual transmission produces 287 hp (214 kW) and 236 lb·ft (320 N·m) of torque at the rear wheels, a significant improvement compared to 236 hp (176 kW) and 218 lb·ft (296 N·m) of torque at the wheels in the previous G35 six-speed coupe model.[9]

A 5-speed automatic with manual mode is standard on the base and "Journey" trim levels with a 6-speed manual being standard on the "Sport 6MT" trim level.[2] It has been rumored that the new Jatco 7AT transmission will be featured on all 2009 models like in the European version. [10]

The vehicle is built on an enhanced version of Infiniti's FM platform and is 36% more rigid than the previous generation. Available as an option is the Infiniti's 4-Wheel Active Steer system (4WAS) which can alter the front steering ratios as well as the rear suspension geometry for improved handling.[7]
