Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center

Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center is a United States naval military installation located in Charles County, Maryland. The base works closely with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division.
The military base, which covers 3,406 acres, is divided into secure and non-secure halves. The base designs, tests and manufactures explosive warheads and propellants and propulsion systems for guns, missiles, rockets and ejector seats in military aircraft.
The base was established in 1890 as the official US Naval Proving Ground. The base has a Chemical & Biological Incident Response Force that was formed in 1996 to combat terrorism.
The base is also home to the Naval Branch Health Clinic, Indian Head, a branch medical and dental clinic of the National Naval Medical Center.
