April Fools' is not a universal holiday

Sorry, but creating hoax articles is considered a form of vandalism, and can lead to the same ugly consequences as any other kind of vandalism to this project. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:04, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Request reason: "Hello everyone, I need some help. I think my school's internet connection has been blocked from Wikipedia. When I try to edit I get the message "your account, IP address, or IP address range has been disabled by Thatcher for the following reason(s): abusing multiple accounts per checkuser". What should I do now? I can't edit at home because I don't have the internet. This is the only computer I have access to. xxx User:Hyper Girl 10:46, 22 May 2008 (UTC)"

Request reason: "I know I'm not supposed to request unblock when it has been declined, but I can't edit any other page other than this one, so it is the only way I can attract someones attention. Is there any way that I can bypass this Ip block? I know Ips do a lot of vandalism, thats actually why I created this account in the first place, because I couldn't edit without it. This Ip has been blocked for a long time (since 2006 if I remember correctly) but I've always been able to edit when I log in. Why has this changed? What must I do to solve this problem? Thank you. xxx User:Hyper Girl 11:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)"

{{helpme}} Please could someone help me. I have requested to be unblocked but they have been turned down twice. I don't know what to do now. I can't contact the users who declined my request because I can only edit my page. I can't edit without logging in because my Ip address is blocked, and somehow that block has affected me when I am logged in. Please could someone explain in plain simple English what is happening. I've had this account since 2006 and I've never had a problem with it. I only edit occasionally, and I don't know what I should do now. xxx User:Hyper Girl 12:07, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

You have not been accidentally blocked, you have been blocked on purpose. A special investigation was done and it was found that this computer, using this IP address, was abusing multiple accounts to disrupt Wikipedia and that this account was one of the accounts. Therefore, this account and the other accounts have been blocked from editing Wikipedia permanently. You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia any more, either through this account or through your IP address. I hope this explains things to you. ➨ ЯEDVEЯS looks at danger and laughs his head off 12:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Request reason: "But why? I have done nothing wrong! What do you mean by "special investigation", are the police involved? My school's internet connection has been blocked from Wikipedia. When I try to edit I get the message "your account, IP address, or IP address range has been disabled by Thatcher for the following reason(s): abusing multiple accounts per checkuser". I've requested two unblocks, both of which have been declined. I asked why and Redvers explained that multiple accounts have been vandalising Wikipedia, and they looked at everyone on my Ip and blocked them all. But this has nothing to do with me. Others have been vandalising and I've got the blame for it. This is a school library computer, one of about 50 in this room. People have been vandalizing Wikipedia from here for years, that is why I made this account because the Ip address was blocked from editing. Before that I edited without logging in. I only ever made one account, and I can't even make more because that is also blocked from this Ip address. I assumed that because I had an account anything done by others through the Ip address without my account wouldn't be associated with me. It said that I should make an account to avoid irrelevant messages on the Ips talk page. Since I joined Wikipedia I have never done anything against the rules that I know of. To be honest I never read the rules but no one has ever challenged me over anything I've done in two years. I assumed everything was ok. In my last edit I was talking about Hard Drives and how to fix mine. It got resolved and I thanked the users who helped me. That was on May 13. I haven't done anything since then (I haven't even been near a computer because there were exams all last week) and then I logged into Wikipedia today and I can't edit. Please, this is the only way I have to edit Wikipedia. I can't make another account to edit with because it is blocked from creating them, and I can't edit because the Ip is also blocked. Please, who do I have to speak to to have my account reviewed? Should I contact User:Thatcher? I can't email him because I don't have an email address. Could someone please contact him to explain this and see if he would recheck my contributions. xxx User:Hyper Girl 14:22, 22 May 2008 (UTC)"

Request reason: "That account was made back in 2006, one minuet after I made this one, and I never used it. In fact I didn't even remember I had it. I said above that NOW (in the present) I couldn't create another account, and this block is a recent thing so I don't think an account I made in 2006, when I was new and probably while experimenting with Wikipedia, and one I never used and didn't even remember I had has any relation to the current situation. I have read the link provided by User:Prom3th3an but this about Ip blocks, and it is my actual account which has been blocked. Look, I know you must all be thinking I'm mad to be wasting so much time on this, and that I should probably just go away, but I feel like I've been labeled a criminal. I read Wikipedia all the time and I don't want to feel like that over something I haven't done. Could someone please contact User:Thatcher, as he is the one who blocked me, and ask him to review my contributions. Also, is there some higher power I could talk to because everyone so far has declined my request and implied I've done something wrong when I haven't. I won't be able to respond until tomorrow at about 9:30am. Thank you."

Decline reason: "This was a direct block; not an IP block as you seem to imply. Since Checkuser is cited, I presume this means someone had good reason for this block. This might be connected to a whole spate of vandalism recently where a bunch of people got together and kept asking increasingly goofy questions on the reference desk. —Daniel Case (talk) 20:52, 22 May 2008 (UTC)"

The key thing to getting you unblocked is establishing your identity. Once an administrator knows exactly who you are, then we'll be confident enough to differentiate you from anyone who may be vandalizing Wikipedia using the same school computers as you. It's one thing saying who you might be on the Internet/Wikipedia and proving it. Do you have a school issued email address or know of a teacher or librarian with a staff email address who can vouch for you? Could you please also tell me the IP address that you're behind at school? --  Netsnipe  ►  18:08, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

We also need the exact block message with the corresponding IP, of course. -- lucasbfr talk 20:28, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I would request that admins reviewing this one look at this first ... perhaps this was the IP? The contrib history looks sort of familiar. Also note the note next to the block log for the 2006 account. There may be more here than meets the eye. Daniel Case (talk) 20:56, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Request reason: "My name is [removed]. I am a student at [removed]. Tel: [removed]. My address is [removed]. I'm sorry User: Netsnipe but the staff here won't email you because they feel Wikipedia is inaccurate and than I shouldn't be using it, and using books instead. I've also talked with my tutor who feels that this block is not a major problem as it doesn't stop me reading Wikipedia. I have also read the Checkuser article, and from what I can tell it looks like people have been making accounts and vandalizing Wikipedia. No surprise, as this is a school full of idiots. But I never ever have done any vandalism at all. I give you my word. The Ip that User:Daniel Case provided is not mine. Mine is User talk:195.194.74.154‎ where I made this edit to inform that is was a Merton College Ip. No one has contacted the blocking administrator User:Thatcher yet. Please contact him to ask him to recheck the checkuser. xxx User:Hyper Girl 08:49, 23 May 2008 (UTC)"

Refdesk troll

Checkuser findings indicate that this person is the Refdesk troll. She is on too many IPs at the exact same times as other trolls in this family to be coincidental use of school computers, plus other technical findings I can not discuss specifically. Thatcher 13:19, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
