From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hydroptilidae is a large family of caddisflies with a worldwide distribution. They are much smaller than other members of the order, rarely exceeding 5 mm in length, and are commonly known as microcaddisflies. The larvae do not build a protective case (either mobile or fixed) until the final instar of their growth. 68 genera with at least 1700 species has been described from this family.
