From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi Huysman, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions to the coolest online encyclopedia I know of =). I sure hope you stick around; we're always in need of more people to create new articles and improve the ones we already have. Here are a few suggestions you might find useful:

Again, welcome! It's great to have you. Happy editing! --Spangineer[es] (háblame) 12:23, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Becoming an admin, quickly, with minimal work

How to become an admin as soon as possible

Strategy towards becoming an admin

It is easier nowadays. A lot of the tools are there now that didn't used to be, from reverting vandalism, to things tagged with cleanup tags, to whatever. The key to me is, how many edits can I make in an hour where people say what I'm doing is a useful edit? Of course, if you're adding a few paragraphs to an article, make sure to do it in more than one edit, that's common sense. I just work to get to that 1000 edit [threshold].

Also remember people like to see people in different spaces. So aside from article space I do AFDs, leave notes in user talk and talk, and other places as well.

When people ask what I edit, I'll talk about what I'm interested in, but it's the other stuff that will get me up to over 1000 edits.

You know - working in different areas of Wikipedia so it's obvious you're familiar with the rules, leaving edit summaries, that type of thing. Some people want to see a conflict mediated. Luckily, that's not always necessary. If it is, tread lightly, it is important not to get into fights.

Two key points are to participate in Articles for Deletion and Request for Adminship fairly regularly. When you do this, you should err on the side of deletion and support votes respectively, but generally go with what others say. What you say in these 2 environments will do much more towards you becoming an admin than any other single thing that you might do.

You should generally try to steer clear of too much dialogue. Edit summaries are good, and writing to someone on their talk page to say thank yous and positive things are good. But if you get to deeply discussing policies on talk pages or policy pages or user talk pages, then your chances of becoming admin quickly are getting shorter, because some people will perceive such things as "conflict". Its still possible to become admin when doing this, but its a lot harder. You then either have to vigorously tow the party line, i.e. just become an automaton with everything by the book, or else you have to get support from people in power. Of course, you can go the long way around and keep going with it, and you will eventually get there.

So the key overall is to act like a robot, like one of the crowd, just doing what everyone else is doing. Make initiatives, or at least pretend to, but always just do them in the expected directions..—The preceding unsigned comment was added by COLIN WILSON (talkcontribs) .

Stop threathening people with banning, though you have no power whatsoever, and when your opinion doesn't impact us in any way.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.114.144.254 (talkcontribs) .

I'm not going to do any banning/blocking; I'm just warning people for their own good that they might soon get banned by an administrator. Do you say this to other people or are you singling me out? Sign your posts. Your comment also will not change my behavior. -- Huysmantalk 03:32, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lucifer vandalism

Was that IP vandalising previously? --HappyCamper 15:03, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Hmm...well, I just thought it was a bit harsh to give the IP that particular notice for a single edit of vandalism, but if there's a range of IPs doing that, then maybe a smart block would be good. --HappyCamper 15:08, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
I suppose that would be good. Not to worry, it's a really minor thing. Keep up the great work! :-) --HappyCamper 15:11, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Just looking around...am I correct to say you want to be an admin? --HappyCamper 21:59, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User talk:Huysman/911 conspiracism

Thanks for doing this page, it is good to see there are a some sensible people left in the internet community. Unfortunatly in other countries like in Poland we have a lot of people "discovering the truth" so we have to work hard to keep the polish wikipedia clean of "original research" of self made "building demolition" and "air crash" experts. Keep up the good work. Mieciu K 14:47, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hightower High School edits cited by the Houston Press

The funny thing is that some vandalism that was removed turns out to be notable now.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:So Much Drama.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:So Much Drama.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Seven Up novel.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Seven Up novel.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 08:18, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you added categories to Peter the Aleut. Please note that usually, articles should not be in both a category and its subcategory; see the policy WP:CAT. I hope this is helpful. Using categories comes with practice; feel free to reply here (or drop me a line) if you have any questions about this. - Fayenatic (talk) 13:58, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
