Parameters:
- {{{class}}} - one of "FA", "A", "B", "Start", "Stub", "Dab", "Category", and "Template". An empty class ("class=") may be used for some meta-pages. See Category:Tropical cyclone articles by quality. Note that the class parameter is case-sensitive.
- {{{importance}}} - one of "Top", "High", "Mid" and "Low". An empty class ("importance=") should be used for meta-pages. See Category:Tropical cyclone articles by quality. Note that the importance parameter is case-sensitive.
- {{{assessed}}} - add this if the article has had an assessment discussion (here); a link is automatically added.
- {{{merge}}} - used for articles undergoing merging discussions here by editors of the WikiProject.
- {{{TCCOTF}}} - used an article currently selected as the Tropical Cyclone Collaboration of the Fortnight.

Templates provide consistent layouts for presenting information about tropical cyclones (referred to as hurricanes or typhoons for simplicity) and storm seasons.
- {{Infobox hurricane}} provides a template for creating an informative table for any hurricane article.
- {{HurricaneWarning}} provides a top-of-page warning (disclaimer) useful for active hurricanes.
- {{HurricaneActive}} provides a table to show the current status of an active hurricane (still under development).
- {{Infobox Hurricane Season}} is a similar template for hurricane season articles.
- {{hurricane}} may be included at the top of talk pages of hurricane-related articles to let potential editors know about these resources.
[edit] Guidelines
- Hurricane articles should link to articles for their seasons, and vice versa. Hurricane Ivan should link to 2004 Atlantic hurricane season, and vice versa.
[edit] Standards
Most discussion on standards is currently spread throughout Talk:List of notable tropical cyclones and Talk:2005 Atlantic hurricane season.
Areas that need standardization include
- Naming of "unnamed" storms (compare 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane, Great Lake Okeechobee Hurricane, Great Miami Hurricane, Galveston Hurricane of 1900).
- Naming and disambiguation of duplicate storm names (compare Hurricane Charley versus Hurricane Charlie, Hurricane Ophelia versus Typhoon Ophelia, etc.).
- What justifies making a separate article for a hurricane versus including it in the season's article?
- How are seasons for different basins done (compare 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, 2005 Pacific hurricane season, 2005 Pacific typhoon season, 2005 Pacific cyclone season, 2005 Indian cyclone season)? What happens to storms that don't fit into any of these defined basins?
...and more. Most of these have been discussed in the above discussion pages, and a consensus has probably been reached. But because these guidelines are not well publicized, authors keep making the same mistakes.

- Search down original discussions for the above standards. Include the standard here with a link to the discussion.

- Standards for articles for "future" seasons. See Talk:2005_Atlantic_hurricane_season/Archive_3#2007.3F_2008.3F.

[edit] Spam!!!
This template appears to be spamming Category:Wikipedia editorial validation with hundreds of hurricane talk pages (which have nothing to do with editorial validation. However, after some hacking, I cannot figure out the cause of this bug. Someone, please fix this. linas 08:06, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
I don't know. Note that simply fixing the template will not have an immediate result: pages are not recatorized until they are editied. I can't see what could be causing this though. — jdorje (talk) 13:56, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
