Hunz

Johannes Van Vliet (born December 15, 1976), better known as his pen-name Hunz, is one of the familiar names involved in the demoscene of the 1990s. He grew up in Brisbane, Australia and began working on tracker music in his early teens. He is noted for being one of the first trackers to make the unconventional move of adding vocals to the compositions.

First appearing on the scene in 1991, Hunz refined his art using Protracker, Fast Tracker 2, and Jeskola Buzz. He later was affiliated with several tracking groups including Heretics, Analogue, Five Musicians (FM) and Hellven.

In 1999, Hunz's musical career took a different turn as he would spend the next three years touring the United States as vocalist for his hard music band Beanbag. They released two albums, Free Signal (2000) and Welladjusted (2001), on American label Inpop Records after their Australian independent release Guttersnipe in 1998 which received rave reviews in the country. The group disbanded in 2002 after a van accident which left Hunz in the hospital for three days with lung damage.

Returning to Australia, Hunz took some time off from music and laid low for a while. He was able to use his creativity in the visual arts by picking up a job doing graphic animation for an advertising company.

In 2005, Hunz resurfaced with news that he is working on a solo album, When Victims Fight, to be released on Apegenine recordings on June 20, 2008. This project is a partnership of sight and sound with Hunz combining his captivating music with animation.
