Hugo Ricciardi O'Neill

Dr. Hugo Ricciardi O'Neill (Lisbon, March 7, 1939 –) is the current head of the Clanaboy O'Neill dynasty, whose family has been in Portugal since the 18th century. He is officially recognized by the offices of arms throughout Europe as titular Prince and Count of Clanaboy, but he refuses to use this title, using instead the style O'Neill of Clannaboy. He is the first child and only son of the previous head Jorge Maria O'Neill (himself a descendant of the Dukes of Braganza and King John I of Portugal) and wife Josefina Luísa Roquette Ricciardi, great-granddaughter of Alfredo Augusto das Neves Holtreman, 1st Viscount de Alvalade and nephew of José Alfredo Holtreman Roquette (aka José Alvalade) founders of Sporting Clube de Portugal (often erroneously known as "Sporting Lisbon").
Since the Carnation Revolution he spends most of his time living in Ulster and claims to feel better living there than in Portugal.
Another branch of the O'Neill clan known as the O'Neill of the Fews of Tyrone is headed by Don Carlos O'Neill the 12th Marquis of Granja. He was declared the Tanist or heir by the O'Neill clan in 1991. Since the apparent accession of Hugo Ricciardi there appears to be some confusion about who is the true O'Neill and heir to the throne of Ulaidh.

Married in Belas, Sintra, October 10, 1962 to his cousin Rosa de Sousa Coutinho Empis (February 2, 1936 –), daughter of Raúl Júlio Empis, of some Walloon extraction, and wife Dona Luísa Burnay de Sousa Coutinho, daughter of the 17th Count de Redondo (formerly Counts de Borba), 14th Count de Vimioso and Representative of the Titles of Marquess de Borba, Marquess de Valença, Marquess and Count de Aguiar, Count de Soure and Lord de Gouveia, herself also a descendant of the Dukes of Braganza and King John I of Portugal). The couple has four children:
- Luísa Empis O'Neill (Lisbon, January 30, 1964 –), married in Setúbal, at the Chappel of the Quinta das Machadas, July 10, 1987 to Pedro Joaquim de Sousa Alvim Calado Cortes (Lisbon, São Domingos de Benfica, August 12, 1963 –), an Agricultural Engineer, first son of Sérgio Alexandre Nunes Calado Cortes, Lord of the Mannor das Cortes, in Lagoa, a Mechanical Engineer, branch of Aeronautics, by the Technical Superior Institute, of Lisbon, Naval Reserve Officer, Class of Navy, Post-Graduated in Business Management by the I.E.S.T.O. of Paris, Director and Business Administrator of the Companhia União Fabril (CUF) Group, and wife Ana Maria de São Paio de Sousa Alvim, a Writer, the couple has three children
- Catarina Empis O'Neill (Lisbon, January 13, 1965 –), unmarried
- Maria Ana Empis O'Neill (Lisbon, January 17, 1966 –), unmarried
- Jorge Empis O'Neill, unmarried, heir apparent to his father
