Huger is an unincorporated community in Berkeley County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,876 at the 2000 census. In South Carolina, Huger is pronounced you-jee. It is part of the Charleston–North Charleston Metropolitan Statistical Area.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,876 people, 982 households, and 732 families residing in the town. The population density was 26.2 people per square mile (10.1/km²). There were 1107 housing units at an average density of 10.1/sq mi (3.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 25.3% White, 73.3% African American, 0.90% from other races, and 0.5% from two or more races.
There were 982 households out of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% were married couples living together, 19.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.93 and the average family size was 3.45.
In the town the population was spread out with 31.2% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was almost 34 years. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $34,535, and the median income for a family was $37,358. Males had a median income of $26,125 versus $21,094 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,985. About 11.1% of families and 12.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.4% of those under the age of eighteen and 18.8% of those sixty five or over. [6]
