Hoplomyzon is a genus of catfishes (order Siluriformes) of the family Aspredinidae. It includes three species, H. atrizona, H. papillatus, and H. sexpapilostoma.^[1] There are also at least two undescribed species, including a blind and unpigmented species.^[2]

Hoplomyzon is distributed in the Lake Maracaibo, Orinoco, and Amazon basins.^[2] H. atrizona inhabits the Lake Maracaibo basin. H. papillatus occurs in the Napo and Portuguesa River basins of Ecuador and Venezuela, respectively. H. sexpapilostoma is known from the Orinoco River basin of Venezuela.^[1]

Hoplomyzon species are small, armoured aspredinids, growing up to 32 millimetres (1.3 in) SL in H. sexpapilostoma.^[2][3] H. papillatus grows to 17 mm (.67 in) SL.^[4] H. atrizona grows to 27 mm SL.^[5] Members of this genus are distinguished from all other aspredinids by having each premaxilla with two bony knobs superficially covered by fleshy papillae, the dorsal and ventral armor plates not overlapping, and 2–3 sets of paired pre-anal-fin plates. They also have the maxillary barbels adnate with the head and the pectoral spine less than one-quarter of the fish's standard length.^[2]
