Ho-Ho-Kus Public School is a community public school district located in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, United States, that serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade. As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 650 students.[2]

Local high school students attend high school at the Northern Highlands Regional High School in nearby town of Allendale[3], which serves students in the 9th-12th grades from Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Upper Saddle River and part of Saddle River.[4]

Originally, high school students from Ho-Ho-Kus attended Midland Park High School at the nearby town of Midland Park, New Jersey with students from Midland Park. But around 1995, the mayor of Ho-Ho-Kus believed that it was not a good idea for Ho-Ho-Kus students to go to high school in Midland Park because the number of students were increasing and Midland Park High School was too small for this number of students and there were very few electives in that high school, so the Ho-Ho-Kus Board of Education had to seek alternatives. From then on, high school students from Ho-Ho-Kus have been attending Northern Highlands Regional High School.

[edit] History

The original school building was constructed in 1936.[5] Over the years, several additions have been made to the school. The most recent construction added 30,000 square feet of space, primarily in the middle school wing, but the addition included the new cafeteria, two science rooms, and administrative offices. There was also a renovation of the existing school building.

[edit] Awards and recognition

During the 1989-90 school year, Ho-Ho-Kus Public School was awarded the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education[6][7], the highest award an American school can receive.[8][9]

In 2002, Mr. John Smith of the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School was recognized with the History of Distinguished Leadership Award by the New Jersey Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.[10]
