HMS Carinthia

HMS Carintha was originally a cruiser. It was laid down as the steam passenger ship Servia and launched as RMS Carinthia for Cunard White Star Line Ltd, Liverpool. In August 1939 she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy. On 30 December 1939 she was commissioned as a 20,277 ton armed merchant cruiser.
At 13.13 hours on June 6, 1940, HMS Carinthia on a northern patrol was torpedoed by U-46 west of Galway Bay, Ireland in position . HMS Carinthia remained afloat, but two officers and two ratings died in the attack. She foundered the next day.
