As a part of the history of both the Pilgrim Holiness Church and The Wesleyan Church, Heritage Wesleyan has a strong foundation. Started in 1947 in the Knob Hill area of Colorado Springs, Colorado, it was first Knob Hill Pilgrim Holiness. The first pastor, Rev. C.A. Wilson, began with a small group of believers who followed the holiness doctrines of the Pilgrim Holiness Church. In 1968 this small denomination merged with the Wesleyan Methodists to become The Wesleyan Church.
By the early 1970s, Knob Hill Wesleyan had to make a decision to either add on to their building or move. In 1974, they broke ground on an addition to the building. With enlarged facilities, they continue to reach into the Knob Hill area. In 1987, with the support of the Colorado Nebraska District of The Wesleyan Church, Knob Hill Wesleyan merged with a smaller sister church, Bethel Wesleyan, to become Heritage Wesleyan Church. The merger strengthened both congregations. In 1994, they opened the Refuge Youth Center in response to a growing need in the church and community for a safe place for youth to participate in various activities. During the next four years, these teens would participate in three missions trips to Mexico and one missions trip to Russia. Throughout it’s history, Heritage Wesleyan Church has stayed true to the doctrine of Christian perfection as defined by the founder of Methodism, John Wesley.
