[edit] Variants

HK13E "Export": An update of the HK13 that had a longer receiver, drum-type rear sights, and was capable of 3-round bursts in addition to semi-automatic and fully automatic fire. It also made use of the NATO standard M16 rifle pattern magazines.

GR6: A "sanitized" version of the HK13 used by NATO special operations forces.[citation needed] It differs in that it has an adjustable-power self-illuminated optical sight permanently fixed to the receiver in the place of iron sights. It can also accept a clip-on beam projector on the receiver that can only be seen by an operator wearing night-vision goggles.
