You mean I have to type out word-for-word a copy on my created Archive page? PS- I've seen Wikipedia's How to page, I don't have a clue what cut & paste means. I'm afraid the only way I'll ever understand this Archiving stuff? is if someone gives a visual instruction on 'You Tube'. GoodDay (talk) 17:06, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
PS: Perhaps it's best I continue what I've been doing. Delete the page, pointing out it's whereabouts on the 'edit summary' - simply leave it in the 'history'. GoodDay (talk) 17:08, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
I've created my Archive page. I couldn't cut so I copied. My stuff went to the archive page (though not an identical copy) & I'll have to delete the original from my user talk page. PS: Wikipedia deleted & redirected my main Archive page (leaving the required discussion version). So, now I guess I simply delete the original from my user page. PS: Why wasn't the copy identical (particularly the Hockey Newsletter & Wiki Awards)? GoodDay (talk) 19:46, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

PS: I've chosen to archive everything else, unto my second Archive page (as it's difficult to keep things highlighted, while you're trying to switch it to another page). Again, like the first archive page content, the second archive page content, is not an exact copy. It makes the archived postings difficult to read. Oh well, I'm trying. I wrote the article in 2005, happily forgot to include proper references and I can't no longer remember. Most data is from here (dead link), but not in the case of this asteroid. PDS Asteroid Data Sets has a comprehensible list of asteroid databases. This database lists asteroid spectra and it does agree with the JPL website. — JyriL talk 17:45, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Applying patches to pywikipedia
Hi, sorry to bother you. I see that you have applied som patches to pywikipedia and I was reading on MetaWiki about Using the python wikipediabot#Contributing changes and it said that I should type
$ svn diff > svn.diff
I tried typing into my bot console, but it didn't work. So where should I type it (using Windows XP); how do I create this .diff file? I have added a couple of translations to category.py that should be included into pywikipedia.

- Don't worry, you're not bothering me, it's always nice to have people trying to contribute to an opensource project :)
- It's pretty normal that this command is not working under XP : it is an Unix command.
svnis the unix subversion (SVN) client, and>is an Unix stream redirection, which is not feasible in Windows, from what I know. - I believe you are using Tortoise SVN as a windows SVN client, are you ? If so, you'll learn how to create a patch here. If not, try searching your SVN client documentation ;)

- I created a .diff file, right clicked on it and used "apply patch", clicked on the file I had altered, it downloaded the fil and...The version on the right reads "Theirs - category.py : patched" and both the left and the right have the extra translations; so does this mean that I have successfully submitted the translations?

- The idea of the patch is that a random user should not be able to change the code without the approval of the project member : you have to send us the .diff, so we can look upon it, and apply it on our computers to test it. If the patch is fine, then one of the project members commits it, and every pywikipedia user upgrading their pywikipedia version after that commit will get the patched file.

Hi Harald - technically, I think you're right that the "a" has a macron in Maori, but the general rule for NZ places is thatif the same name is used in English as well as Maori macrons aren't added to the titles (common English usage doesn't add them). It's still subject to debate as to whether this rule will stay or be changed, but since most people searching for places do so from outside NZ (where the use of the macron isn't likely to be known) it's easier to search if the macron isn't there. Hi. Your bot's edits to Hertfordshire didn't add nn:Hertfordshire, it took the existing entries which were in alphabetical order and jumbled them up. I'll revert the changes. Hope you can fix your bot. Bazj (talk) 20:11, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
