Harry Lee Doll

Harry Lee Doll (1903-1984), was bishop of the Episcopal diocese of Maryland during a particularly difficult time in the history of the diocese and the nation.

Having previously served as suffragan bishop (1955-58) and then as coadjutor (1958-1963), Doll succeeded the popular Noble C. Powell in 1963.

He had previously served as rector of Christ Church, Alexandria, Virginia, as rector of a large parish in Houston, Texas, and as rector of Old St. Paul's, Baltimore, Maryland.

Doll, a native of West Virginia, graduated from the Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary, in Alexandria, Virginia.

He was married to Delia Doll, and they had two children, both girls.

Doll was a friend and supporter of Presiding Bishop John Hines, proponent of the controversial General Convention Special Program.

Doll was succeeded by David Keller Leighton, Sr.
