Hardangerjøkulen is the sixth largest glacier in mainland Norway, and is located in Eidfjord and Ulvik municipalities.
Hardangerjøkulen's highest point is 1,863 m above sea level, and is the highest point in Hordaland. Its lowest point is 1,050 m above sea level.
The glacier is easily accessed from the north in the winter, from the railway station Finse on Bergensbanen. In the winter the highest point can be accessed from Finse using only skis.

The 1980 movie "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" used Hardangerjøkulen as a filming location for the ice planet Hoth where some of the climactic action scenes of the movie took place which are of the Star Wars series' most memorable sequences.
