[edit] Chang Jiao Tai

Why did you remove him? Someones claming this is the tallest man recorded who has ever lived. As far as I'm aware Robert Waldow born 1918 is tallest man ever recorded.

[edit] cutoff on tall men

You edit that article pretty often, so could you please comment at Talk:List of very tall men#Start with 6' 5"? — coelacan talk — 21:08, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I think this is turning into a vote. And rightly so, i say. Cheers, RCS 08:26, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ric Flair's NWA World Title reigns

Flair did win the championship belt for the 10th time on July 18, 1993. However, the National Wrestling Alliance officially dropped it's recognition of Flair's 10th reign in September of 1993 after World Championship Wrestling withdrew from the National Wrestling Alliance. Since the NWA doesn't recognize Flair's 10th reign, he's officially recognized by them as a 9 time champion, not 10. Check out the NWA World Title history on the NWA's website. It lists all the wrestlers who've won the title, including championship wins and losses not recognized as official NWA canon. Odin's Beard 18:31, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Look directly below where it mentions his 10th title win, which occurred in Biloxi, Ms, it says: "Recognition dropped by NWA in 93/09 after WCW withdraws from NWA; WCW continues to recognize "WCW International" World Heavyweight title with Flair as the champion". Even though Flair did win the title on July 18, 1993, the NWA dropped it's recognition of that reign in September of 1993 after WCW's withdrawl from the National Wrestling Alliance. Odin's Beard 00:05, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't see any other way to interpret the reign. What else other than the 10th title reign could the NWA be dropping recognition of? The statement is posted directly below the listing of Flair's 10th title win, which is only a few months prior to WCW's withdrawl from the NWA. When Flair left WCW for the WWF in late 1991, the listing mentions how Flair was stripped of the title but nothing was said about any recognition being dropped. If Flair was merely stripped of the championship and not the reign itself, as you're suggesting, then it would say so as the history makes a distinction between the two terms. Odin's Beard 00:15, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
An edit war wasn't my intention, nor was it a goal or anything. The NWA's choice of wording the statement, which I suppose can cause different interpretations, is somewhat vague in some terms. It would be easier if they said, in plain as dirt sort of way, that they were dropping recognition of the reign. However, seeing as how the reign can be disputed, given interpretation of the NWA statement, the 10th reign can be disputed, perhaps it's best to just leave the number of NWA World Title reigns at 9 since there's no question that he does have at least that many. [edit] List of tall men and List of tall women

Hi Halbared, Given that it will not be long before the articles are AfD'd once more, I have started a section at Talk:List of tall men#Future direction of the article to try to build consensus about the future of these two articles. You are a frequent and regular contributor to the List of tall men article, so I am asking for your input. Another major editor is User:T. Anthony, but he has expressed his intention of quitting Wikipedia so I'm not notifying him. I'm not notifying anyone else as noone else seems to have made multiple contributions over an extended timeframe. I have not in the past contributed content to either of these articles, but I think they or some refocused version of them should be kept and I'm willing to work toward it. I would appreciate your comments, if you have any of course. Cheers, Black Falcon 05:37, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Great! I too agree that the list should have those people who are among the the tallest recorded (e.g., Wadlow) and those who are famous for their height (e.g., Brad Garrett). The details of exactly what criteria are used can be worked out on the talk page. Given the current state of the list, I am amazed at some editors' comments that it would be easier to delete this list and start over. This is one of the best-sourced lists in Wikipedia! Aside from the "Historical" section, there are only three names that are still unsourced. I will work on those now. Cheers, Black Falcon 17:59, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of tall men removals?

Good morning Halbared, I was curious as to why some edits were removed from the List of tall men article. I had recently listed Glen Jaccobs, Kevin Nash, Nathan Jones and Matt Morgan. All of these men more than make the list. I realize that the last two are not as well known as the previous two wrestlers, and I also know that their billed height differs from actual height (i.e. -- "Kane" is billed as 7'0", but he is actually between 6'8" and 6'9"). Was it perhaps because there was no reference that denoted their actual height? If I was to find this information from a non-self-promoting location and reference it, would they be removed again?

Thanks! ~kmwatcha 03:05, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rik Smits & Ralph Sampson

Replied on my talk page. --The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 17:26, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tall men -- Shawn Bradley and Mark Eaton

Just wondering why you removed these two (I added them back in). Bradley, at 7'6", was one of the three or four tallest players ever in the NBA, and was essentially known for his height more than anything else (like Manute Bol). Eaton was probably one of the ten or so tallest NBA players, and was a solid contributor to a very good Utah Jazz team for many years. Let me know your thoughts -- thanks, NawlinWiki 15:59, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Alan Bannister - List of Tall Men

The Alan Bannister linked to from the Wikipedia page plays baseball and is American. He is 5ft 11.

Alan Bannister who played in the NBA for Utah Jazz is from Bolton, England. It was referenced in the local newspaper article which I put in the References section.

[edit] Friendly reminder

Leaving aside the fact that you don’t seem to be aware of how to properly cite a source it seems, then I must remind you that when making changes to a cited statement you need to make sure that the source you cite is more reliable than the one you replace otherwise it shouldn’t be changed in the first place. And since the source in the Davey Boy Smith article that you’re trying to replace is from a well researched, fact checked book written by an author who’s written about wrestling for twenty years you’ll have to do a lot better than an Onlineworldofwrestling source. In other words if you can’t find a source that’s better than the book I’ve cited and explained to you now then you should leave the information alone, otherwise it is vandalism and further warnings will not be so friendly.MPJ-DK 20:30, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Just because it's a book doesn't make it any more valid than a website. Ta for the hit on citing tho.Halbared 09:43, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

I have explained to you WHY the book is a more reliable source - it's been researched and fact checked by people who write about wrestling for a living. Onlineworldofwrestling is a fan site, with no defined fact checking policies or anything that indicates the level of research. I'm given you a warning against blatant vandalism because I've explained to you why the book source is more reliable - change it again and I will report you to an admin and trust me he will find the book a more reliable source than OWW. MPJ-DK 12:42, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

And in case you still want to go "Well I like it" then please read the following discussion Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#www.onlineworldofwrestling.com which seems to point towards OWW not actually being a reliable source, definitly not as reliable as the source I use. So in closing unless you can present a better source leave it alone or it's vandalism. MPJ-DK 12:51, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re:Sources

See WP:RS#Types of source material for full details.

To answer your question, WWF programs citing articles on former WWF wrestlers is considered a primary source. Primary sources are documents or people very close to the situation being written about. The thing about primary sources is that anyone who reads the article without specialist knowledge should be able to verify the content. Any primary sources requires a secondary source to back it up.

Wikipedia should try to use secondary sources. Secondary sources are publications which draw conclusions based upon the primary source. The example given by Wikipedia is "A journalist's story about a traffic accident or a Security Council resolution is a secondary source, assuming the journalist was not personally involved in either".

OnlineWorldofWrestling is considered a tertiary source. Wikipedia is a tertiary source (although that may not be used as a source :p). Being a tertiary source means it is reliable in some places more than others. Tertiary sources may be used as long as the are of a good quality. Secondary sources should be used instead of tertiary, but tertiary is equally as welcome. In the case of OWW, tertiary sources dominating the entire references list should try to be avoided.

Hope this helps! — Moe ε 16:43, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

From the Editor

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! I hope this will be a good source of news to those people interested in what's happening around our pro wrestlimg community. I plan to release it every Sunday.

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement.

That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page.
