[edit] Services

The December 2007 timetable brought about significant changes, and the service is now better than it has been since the mid 1980s when there was an hourly Nunthorpe:Middlesbrough service including seven Whitby trains.

Monday to Saturday: The service is made up of three elements.

The Esk Valley service between Middlesbrough and Whitby (4 trains each way per day)

A two hourly service between Nunthorpe and Newcastle/Hexham via Hartlepool (6 trains ew per day, although one is shunted to the siding in Middlesbrough on weekdays before continuing to Newcastle)

One train from Bishop Auckland (Darlington on Saturdays) to Nunthorpe

One train from Nunthorpe to Middlesbrough

There is no Sunday service except from the start of the Summer timetable to the end of September.
