Green Lake is a city in Green Lake County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,100 at the 2000 census. The city is located on the north side of Big Green Lake. The city of Green Lake is the county seat for the county of Green Lake. The Town of Green Lake is located on the south side of Big Green Lake, opposite the city.

Green Lake is located at 43°50′33″N, 88°57′28″W (43.842675, -88.957813)[1]. It is near the towns of Princeton and Ripon, and is approximately 30 minutes west of Fond du Lac.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km²), of which, 1.4 square miles (3.6 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²) of it (14.20%) is water. Green Lake is the second deepest inland lake in Wisconsin (Wazee Lake) , measuring 237 feet deep at its greatest depth, but is the deepest natural inland lake in the state of Wisconsin.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,100 people, 523 households, and 300 families residing in the city. The population density was 787.2 people per square mile (303.4/km²). There were 732 housing units at an average density of 523.8/sq mi (201.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.91% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.27% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 523 households out of which 20.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% were non-families. 38.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.04 and the average family size was 2.71.

In the city the population was spread out with 18.5% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 22.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 100.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $35,435, and the median income for a family was $49,091. Males had a median income of $31,591 versus $23,917 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,444. About 4.1% of families and 5.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.5% of those under age 18 and 5.6% of those age 65 or over.

Green Lake is known for its fishing and recreational tourist community during the summer months. There is a number of things to do here during the summer. The most abundant activities include, camping at Green Lake Campground or Hatti Sherwood, biking on the Heidel Trails, fishing on the lake, hiking, swimming in the lake, and boating around Norwegian Bay. While motorized water sports are prevalent so are sports like sailing, canoeing, and kayaking. The area is also very pristine and quaint. The small town also has a number of shops to visit and restaurants that serve their very own Green Lake fish. Some of the restaurants include Grey Rock, Sunroom and BoatHouse at Heidel House Resort, JT Skewers, Norton's on Green Lake, Harbor Lights, Two Chez and The Gooseblind. The largest sleeping establishment in Green Lake is [Heidel House Resort]http://www.heidelhouse.com, with 199 guest rooms. [Evensong Spa]http://www.evensongspa.com recently opened across the street from Heidel House Resort. The spa has an indoor labyrinth.

Also in Green Lake is the American Baptist Churches USA's Green Lake Conference Center.
