Great Explorations, the Children's Museum, in St Petersburg, Florida, USA, was founded in 1986 by The Junior League of St Petersburg and Hands-On, Inc.
The museum offers interactive exhibits including a children's village with a giant, Pizza Parlor, Fire House, Pet Vet clinic, and Raceway; My First Market, a giant pretend super market; several art and science exhibits, including a Great Splash water conservation exhibit, Great Beginnings early childhood exhibit, Great Mix, an array of music exhibits, and Puppets on Parade, an exhibit of larger than life puppets.
Programs at Great Explorations include monthly special Saturdays events, a Kite Club, Astronomy Club, more than 20 programs for group visits and teachers, provided on-site and off-site, early childhood programs including Terrific Tots and Stepping Up, two multi-disciplinary programs for infants and preschoolers, The Museum School of enrichment programs, etc.
The museum has an educational toy store, called Great Stuff, and has a variety of volunteer programs for youth and adults, including InterACTORS, a national career exploration and mentoring program with trained TV and Broadway actors training youth to perform at the museum and in the community.
