[edit] Goldsprint vs Roller Racing

Are these two names for the same thing? If so, we should merge or at least crosslink the articles. If not, please explain the difference. Perhaps Roller Racing is a sub category of Goldsprinting or visa versa. -AndrewDressel 14:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I've never heard of "Goldsprint". It appears to be the same as roller racing but using a different name. This article reads like an advertisement, it should be deleted, and one or two lines added to the bicycle rollers article to mention that in last last few years, one organiser has started to hold roller races under their own name of "GoldSprints". Okay, then. Merge away! -AndrewDressel 14:55, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

HOLD UP YE IGNORANT ONES. There IS a difference. Goldsprints are 1)messenger specific and have a unique cultural background, experience and following/experience. 2) the hardware is also different. Goldsprints generally have a FIXED FRONT FORK and use fixed gear bikes, while roller races often have an unsupported fron wheel spinning on a second roller and can (though often not) use a geared bike. 3) Goldsprint organizers in Toronto INDEPENDENTLY developed a visualization software that while it's an update on older roller racing "dial" boards is also Divergent. Since then further visualization tools have also evolved. -24.193.240.198 00:21, 16 April 2007

OK so it's a form of roller racing. From what you're saying, more specifically it's a roller racing event arranged by one particular organiser(s) and attended by one particular group of people, generally using a certain bike/roller setup (although the article did say Any type of bicycle can be used and there are a few variations on the set-up depending on the type of rollers used and if the front wheel is engaged or fixed. The rollers are in turn attached to a device that measures distance and can display the progress of the riders. which sounds like a description of any type of roller racing in general).
Also it is inaccurate to say "There IS a difference" between "Goldsprint" and roller racing, because roller racing can include many types of setups or formats, it's like trying to say that "there's a difference between bicycle road racing and the Tour de France". Anyway I have re-written the article to reduce advertising and in a neutral point of view, and to keep the article specific to goldsprint. Info about roller racing in general should be in Roller racing. LDHan 10:30, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
