Golden Vale
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Golden Vale / An Mhachaire Mhéith is an area of undulating green pastures, hills and mountains, Situated in the Southwest region of Ireland, on the borders of counties Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. The area has been described as "a haven of beauty and tranquillity", where the pace of life is unhurried. However, this has changed radically in recent years. The "Celtic Tiger" has brought about unprecedented destruction on this countryside. Many say that poorly-placed one-off houses have blemished the landscape. The specialisation of many farmers in the dairy sector has resulted in the loss of many miles of hedgerows. [1]
The Golden Vale is still however one of Europe's richest pasturelands and this is reflected in the number of Visitor Farms that offer an opportunity for visitors to experience life on a working farm.
