Golden Globe Award for Best Director — Motion Picture
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This page lists the winners and nominees for the Golden Globe Award for Best Director,[1] since its institution in 1943. The organizer, Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), is an organization comprised of journalists who cover the United States film industry, but are affiliated with publications outside North America. The award is presented every year. The nominations are not always available.[1]
Elia Kazan is the biggest winner—4 wins in 4 nominations. Clint Eastwood, David Lean, Miloš Forman and Oliver Stone come right behind with 3 wins each. Steven Spielberg had the most nominations (10) but received the award only twice.
In the following lists, the first titles listed are winners, these are also in bold and in blue background; those not in bold are nominees. The years given are those in which the films under consideration were released, not the year of the ceremony, which always takes place the following year.
