Glenn F. Ivey is the current (as at 2006) State's Attorney for Prince George's County, Maryland, elected in 2002.

In 1983, Glenn graduated with honors from Princeton University. Three years later, he graduated from Harvard Law School after which his legal career officially began when he joined the litigation department at the prestigious Baltimore law firm of Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger & Hollander.

The father of six children -- five sons with his wife Jolene, a freshman in the Maryland House of Delegates, and one daughter from a previous relationship – Glenn Ivey grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Dale City, Virginia. He attended Gar-Field High School, where he was captain of the varsity basketball team that went to the Virginia Regional Finals his senior year. Ivey and his wife moved to Prince George’s County in 1988.

Ivey is a former federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C., who served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1990 until 1994. During his last two years in office, he served under Eric H. Holder Jr., former United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. While there, Ivey handled nearly 40 criminal jury trials, numerous appeals and grand jury investigations.[citation needed]

He is also a former Partner at the Washington law firm of Preston, Gates, Ellis & Rouvelas, Meeds where he handled legislative, regulatory and criminal matters. His expertise in criminal law led him to be selected to teach an as Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Maryland School of Law where he continues to serve as an educator.[citation needed]

Ivey eventually moved on to Capitol Hill as senior legislative assistant to Congressman John Conyers (D-MI). His experience includes serving as Chief Counsel to former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) and as Counsel to the Senate Whitewater Committee for Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-MD).[citation needed]

In 1998 former Maryland Governor, Parris Glendening appointed him Chairman of the Maryland Public Service Commission where he held jurisdiction over the electric, telecommunications and gas industries in the State.

Now, as State’s Attorney, Ivey says he aims to create a more collective and collaborative approach to rehabilitative justice. He has launched an aggressive community outreach program to work with community groups and local residents to make neighborhoods safer, and developed youth empowerment initiatives to help reduce juvenile crime by getting youth involved in learning life skills and in understanding the criminal justice process.[citation needed]

Ivey has made numerous television appearances as a legal commentator on CNN's Burden of Proof, BET's Tavis Smiley Show and the Fox cable network. Ivey also gained national media attention for his prosecution of Roger Hargrove for attempted murder. Hargrove was the estranged husband of Yvette Cade. Hargrove doused Cade in gasoline and set her on fire at her workplace. Hargrove was convicted and is awaiting sentencing. He faces up to life in prison.

Ivey is an active member of many organizations, including the Prince George's County Bar Association, the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association, the Kiwanis Club of Mitchellville and the Princeton Alumni Schools Committee. He has coached youth teams at the Cheverly Boys and Girls Club and is a member of the Cheverly United Methodist Church.
