Gisela Birkemeyer (born December 22, 1931 in Fahsendorf/Ore Mountains, Saxony) is a former athlete and Olympic participant from Germany, who was born as Gisela Köhler. She was a member of the best athlets in the 80m hurdling.

Birkemeyer won with the GDR championships in gold at the 80m hurds in the years 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960. At the 200m sprint and won gold in the years 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960. At the 80m hurds she won continuous the GDR masters in the years 1953 to 1961.^{[1] [2]}

She competed for the United Team of Germany and won two medals, the silver medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, behind the Australian Shirley Strickland and before the Australian Norma Thrower. At the Olympic summer games in Rome, she won the bronze medal 1960 and Britin Carole Quinton and Irina Press, in 1960. At the athletic European championship meeting in Stockholm, she won the third in the 80-meter hurdle run, 1958. ^[3] 1959 she was voted to GDR Sportswoman of the Year. In addition Birkemeyer was at the 100m and 200m run in 40 times GDR-champion, from 1951 until 1964.

Birkemeyer belonged to the Sport Club Dynamo. With a size of 1,62 metres and a match weight about of 60 kg. After end of her sportswoman career, she worked as an offspring-trainer and a member of the SC Dynamo Berlin, in East Berlin. She now lives as an annuitant in Berlin Marzahn.^[4]
