[edit] Receiver (radio) edits

Hi, Gerry!

You've got a bunch of questions, so let me see if I can help you with each of them.

First, getting in touch with another user is pretty easy. One way is to look at the user's talk page or the user's user page. On the left, under "toolbox", you'll see a link that says "E-mail this user". That lets you send an email to the user directly. Some users don't turn this on.

If a user doesn't have e-mail enaled, you can leave a comment or question on their talk page. That's the "Discussion" tab on their User page. Using the "+" tab on the discussion page will let you add a new section at the bottom of the page. Some users will respond to your talk page (like I'm doing now), and some users will respond on their own talk page to keep the conversation in one place.

Next, about your edit to the "Receiver (radio)" article. I described why I removed them on the talk page for the article, which is "Talk:Receiver (radio)". Normally, conversations about the content of an article stay there and don't go to user pages.

What you added was well-written, but I removed it for two different reasons. One is that you didn't cite any references. Wikipedia isn't for original research; it's for articles written baed on verifiable and available references.

What you wrote was about the history of radio, not about radio receivers. You'll find a History section at the Radio article, and if you can provide references for yoru text, I think what you wrote will make a great contribution for that piece.

Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit] Re: Valve gear image

Two comments... The rollback was my intention because it was my understanding that the restored image showed the reverser in action. The wheels move forward for a few frames then stop, then the reverser is used and the wheels turn in the opposite direction even though the steam flows through the same valves in the same direction in the piston. If there's a better animation image uploaded here or on commons, I haven't seen it yet.

Second comment has to do with the location of your question to me. For future use, please add new comments to my main talk page and not one of the archive pages, and please use ~~~~ to automatically sign and date comments there. Adding comments to my main talk page will produce the "you have new messages" box at the top of Wikipedia pages to instantly notify me of new comments. Thanks.
