[edit] Destroyers or torpedoboats?

All sources I've seen, cite this class as torpedo boats - not destroyers ([1]). Moreover, the classification "Flottentorpedoboot" has been used for vessels built 1939 and later, which had different capabilities. I think the article's name and content needs to be changed to reflect this. I will do so, unless there's dissent Folks at 137 09:33, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree with the name and content change. These are torpedoboats, not destroyers. It would also be nice if you changed the Mowe name to the correct Möwe. Möwe is German for seagull, Mowe doesn't mean anything. Manxruler 11:21, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merge

Why should this article be merged with Schnellboot? Motor torpedo boat has its own article, separate from Torpedo boat. I just don't see why we shouldn't have two articles for these two different ship types and I therefore oppose a merger between Schnellboot and German torpedoboats of World War II. Manxruler (talk) 14:51, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

German Torpedoboote and Schnellboote had little in common. In germany the little WWI Torpedoboote were grown up until they were nearly Destroyers or one could say german light Destroyers in WWII. The Schnellboote on the other Hand were grown up from MTB-size to the former torpedoboat-size, but with doctrine and tactics of MTBs. Al least they became (today) nearly Corvettes. I think the german classification just don't fit whith the english.--WerWil (talk) 20:39, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree with the above the S boats were a quiet separate design having more in common with PT boats or MTB's than the flottentorpedoboote which were in effect small destroyers —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ala.foum (talkcontribs) 19:04, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I must vote against as the torpedo boats and motor torpedo boats are distinctly separate, despite the similarity in name when translated to English.71.127.4.171 (talk) 18:46, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I strongly disagree with the merge. The large German torpedo boats of WWII were fleet units, capable of long trips and face-to-face engagements with larger enemy units (i.e. the HMS Charybdis in 1943). E-boats were only fitted for coastal operations and hit-and-run missions. DagosNavy 2:07, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Intro

I guess the Intro has to set the disambiguation caused by the different classifications. --WerWil (talk) 22:37, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
