Gerard James Noel (August 28, 1823 – May 19, 1911) was a Conservative Member of Parliament for Rutland, the son of Charles Noel, 1st Earl of Gainsborough and his fourth wife, Arabella Williams.
On 30 June 1863, he married Augusta Mary Lowther, daughter of Henry Cecil Lowther.[1]
He was a Lord of the Treasury from 1866 until 1868, and briefly Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury that year until the fall of the Third Derby Ministry. During the Second Disraeli ministry, he was created a Privy Counsellor (May 12, 1874), and was from 1876 until 1880 First Commissioner of Works.
At his home, Catmose, in Oakham, Rutland, he developed a fine garden which employed 15 gardeners. The range of trees in his arboretum was claimed to rival Kew Gardens.
