[edit] A little bit me
Retired schoolteacher from Lancashire but living in Yorkshire! I used to teach Modern European History so naturally I am happy to look at any articles that touch on my speciality. Very keen on the history of postage stamp issues. I see stamps as historical documents. I am not a keen editor but I enjoy tidying up and helping to move things beyond the stub level if I can. Most of my time on Wikipedia is spent on the cricket project because I am essentially here to support my friend BlackJack, who is a very prolific editor and is a cricket historian. I admit I am a reader rather than an editor. My capability is research and I think Jack and I complement each other. I dig, we both analyse, he writes!
Apart from that, I'm happily married and we have a cat. I support the grand old sport of Rugby Football, that being "real" rugby with forwards and tackling, not the alternative. I don't support any particular rugby club and go to watch several teams locally, the best known being Leeds Tykes and Otley RUFC; essentially I support England. I like to watch county and Test cricket. I definitely do support Lancashire CCC, as well as England, and I like motor cycle racing, having been a keen "biker" myself for many years.
"George Williams" is not my real name. It is a tribute to Emlyn Williams and my greatest sporting hero Brian Statham, who were both known as "George". I flipped a coin for the surname and Williams won.
[edit] Retiring from Wikipedia
It is now 99% certain that we shall be moving back to Lancashire in summer 2007 to live "beside the seaside", as they say, and I am not at all sure that I want a computer to accompany me when it happens. My intention is to read books, go for walks, do the garden and watch sport.
So, having done what I can to help out with some cricket articles that needed attention, I have decided to quit while I am ahead and stand down. Adieu!
