Gens Calpurnia

Gens Calpurnia was a family in ancient Rome. The patriarch was a plebeian who claimed descent from Calpus, the third of the four sons of Numa Pompilius, the second King of Rome; and accordingly we find the head of Numa Pompilius on some of the coins of this gens.
The Calpurnii are not mentioned till the time of the First Punic War, and the first of them who obtained the consulship was Gaius Calpurnius Piso in 180 BC. Gens Piso becomes one of the most illustrious in the Roman Republic, including lawmakers such as Lucius Calpurnius Piso.
Lex Calpurnia (149 BC) and Lex Acilia Calpurnia (67 BC) are laws named after this family.
