Gates Mills is a village in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,493 at the 2000 census. Gates Mills is a suburb of Cleveland. Gates Mills was originally part of Mayfield Township.

(41.532584, -81.410527)According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 9.1 square miles (23.6 km²), of which, 9.1 square miles (23.5 km²) of it is land and 0.11% is water.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 2,493 people, 925 households, and 750 families residing in the village. The population density was 274.2 people per square mile (105.9/km²). There were 974 housing units at an average density of 107.1/sq mi (41.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 94.10% White, 0.92% African American, 0.20% Native American, 3.49% Asian, 0.12% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.60% of the population.
There were 925 households out of which 33.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.9% were married couples living together, 4.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.9% were non-families. 16.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the village the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 17.6% from 25 to 44, 35.3% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $133,605, and the median income for a family was $161,350. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $50,761 for females. The per capita income for the village was $74,732. About 1.0% of families and 1.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 4.1% of those age 65 or over.

Gates Mills is a part of the Mayfield City School District, along with Highland Heights, Mayfield Heights, and Mayfield Village. Gates Mills is home to one of Mayfield's elementary schools.
Gates Mills also has two private schools that serve the Greater Cleveland area. They are:
- Gilmour Academy, a Roman Catholic college preparatory school with a lower, middle, and high school.
- Hawken School, the upper school campus counterpart of Hawken School in Lyndhurst, Ohio. The campus actually is physically located in Chesterland, but its mailbox is on the Cuyahoga side of County Line Road.

- Gates Mills South Cemetery is the final resting place of May Allison, an American stage and silent film actress.
- Eric Carmen, Singer/songwriter known for such hits as "All By Myself"' "Go All The Way", "Almost Paradise" and "Hungry Eyes" lives in Gates Mills. Former lead singer and song writer for the Cleveland band Raspberries.
- O. J. McDuffie, former American Football player who played wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, played high school football at Hawken School.
- Melanie Valerio graduated from Hawken School and won a gold medal as a member of the winning 4 x 100 Freestyle Relay team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Bob Feller, the hall-of-fame Cleveland Indians pitcher, lived in Gates Mills throughout his career and has lived there ever since.
- David Sedaris, author, writes extensively about a rich aunt who lived in Gates Mills
