[edit] Miming/frolicking etc
Regarding the lyric, I bought a cassette of Jester's Tear in England in 1983 and it sounds like "frolicking" to me, although it is garbled and could be a deliberate ambiguity on Fish's part. Thatcher131 04:36, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
- You're right Thatcher - now that I remember, the lyric on the album version was different again from the other two versions (and the 'live' perfomances). I'll ammend the article to reflect that in a while. --Mal 14:06, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

- Now I'm confused. If it was frolicking on the album and miming on the single, when was it ever fucking? I may have mis-heard my cassette version, thinking frolicking since it was a better rhyme for rocking (if I knew all along it was rucking, I might have heard it differently.) Interestingly, the lyrics printed in the remastered CD omit this section entirely so they're no help. Can you clarify when if ever it was fucking or frolicking? Thatcher131 18:08, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

- I have the original CD version of the album from 1983 and it clearly sounds like "fucking" to me. I can't hear "frolicking" even if I try. But then again I'm not a native English speaker. Jajws 23:07, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

- On the 12" single I believe it was "fucking". On the Album it was "frolicking". On the 7" version it was "miming". In live performances he usually gets the crowd to sing.. I'm sure you can guess what they sing! This is the case as far as I remember. Unfortunately, I have all my music basically as MP3s in collections on my hard drive. I'm sure I have the vinyl 12" (which included the 7" version) and the LP somewhere.. but I don't have a record player at the minute. --Mal 19:14, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Singles guidelines
Thatcher and myself have had some discussion about the songs of Marillion and the singles notability guidelines. I'm not redirecting this one though, as it might just fall into the acceptable category considering its controversy and length. The article is duplicated in a new article I have started though: Marillion singles (1982 - 1988). I'm usually good with time signatures, but this song has me stumped. Is it really just 4/4? Because it almost sounds like 17/16 to me. If the timing really is so odd, it might be worth noting in the article. 72.136.191.254 20:06, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
