gallery Homelandis an art gallery in southeast Portland, Oregon, United States dedicated to providing the region with interdisciplinary exhibition space to display emerging and challenging concepts in the visual and performing arts. Started by Paige Saez and Paul Middendorf, the artists and curatorial team had put their heads together to form a cutting-edge think tank and art venue.
Homeland is directed by Paul Middendorf and with its centrally located neighborhood position, acts as an artistic incubation center for the greater area of Portland. The gallery focuses on interdisciplinary arts exhibitions and events locally, nationally, and internationally. Through the its creative projects and its expansive collaborative efforts gallery Homeland works with the city to strengthen the creative economy. Within these ties Homeland is able to help both artists and the creative city of Portland to gain recognition and notoriety.

[edit] Art exchange
The Homeland Art Exchange is a program in which the gallery will work with the organization Manifest Artistry to send Portland art to cities both nationally and internationally, to participate in show, fairs, and other exhibitions. With recent partnerships with galleries and groups located across the nation and globe, Homeland will actively provide regional artists to expand their exhibitions list, as well as their career. To participate in show, fairs, and other exhibitions, along with the exporting of art and artists, Homeland will provide exhibitions, projects and residency space for artists from other cities and countries to create and elaborate on new ideas and concepts.

Under the auspices of an independent study with Harrell Fletcher at Portland State University, Paige Saez began acquiring small amounts of student loan money for an artist’s residency program that she was running from her own space. She began to invite artists and art-related groups to come, live and make work for one month within the space. Such self-produced residency projects were with artists Jean-Paul Jenkins and Michigan arts group “ Dynamite” www.dynamitefamily.com. The projects are documented and transferred over to a CD for cataloging. Now the residency program is expanding with the hopes of sending Portland artists to cities across the country and bringing other national artists to Portland for one month. With Harrell Fletcher and Stephanie Snyder as our newest advisors and jurors, we are moving forward with this grand endeavor. Portland is in dire need of this level of artists exchange and Homeland is working on our resources to produce and support such a program. Participation with other like organizations and arts groups will help us encourage visiting artists, as well as local, to go participate and create outside of academia.

Gallery Homeland will provide several thousand square feet of active project space to be used for creation of new works from artists and groups throughout the city and beyond. With a lending hand from the community, like organizations, and the gallery, we will help to further working and established ideas, and provide suitable locations for their exhibitions and exposure. This space will be readily available for events, lectures, film and video screenings, as well as performance, dance, and more.

Gallery Homeland shows Portland artists nationally and internationally, and most recently produced Lifeboat-Miami for Art Basel's International Art Fair, Lifeboat-Hamptons for The Scope Art Fair, Waterways, an Istanbul Biennale project, and many more projects across the globe.
