Galactic Suite
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Galactic Suite is a planned space station intended for use as an orbital hotel to be made operational in 2012.[1] Galactic Suite Limited, the company that is developing the station, has stated that a three-day stay will cost US$4 million per person. The station is described as making a complete orbit around the Earth every 80 minutes.
Xavier Claramunt, company director of Galactic Suite, says his company has calculated that there are 40,000 people in the world who can afford to stay at Galactic Suite. Included in the price is an eight week intensive training course at a space camp on a tropic island.
The company says they have considered the problem of zero gravity as well. Guests will use Velcro suits to crawl around their rooms by sticking themselves to the walls. Showers are taken by entering a spa room filled with water bubbles.
The project began as a hobby for Claramunt, who is a former aerospace engineer. The project has since entered development after a yet-unknown space enthusiast donated US$3 billion to build the hotel. Discussions are ongoing with additional private investors from Japan, the United States and the United Arab Emirates.[2]
