Görmeli is a village on the hillside of Taurus mountains near Ermenek, Karaman province, Turkey.

[edit] Geography
Görmeli, located in the Karaman Region’s Taurus Mountains range, on the slopes of Taurus mountains. It is at the eastsouth side of Ermenek town, Karaman province. It is 18 km. far from the center of Ermenek and 90 km.from the touristic town of Mediterranean region Anamur. Map coordinates are 40° 42° North parallels and 30° 10° East meridians. The village is on the mainroad of Ermenek and Gülnar. It is surrounded with forests and high mountains. The area is very productive due to watery fields and soft soil. Almost all vegetables and fruits are grown in village. Görmeli presents us quite spectacular sights with meadows, streams, plants, trees, animals and traditional lifestyle of the people.

It is unknown that when the people established this area. But it is said that the people were brought from Adana by the Emirate of Karamanid hundreds years ago. Ala Köprü is also called Görmel Köprüsü is a bridge 5 km (3 mi) away from the village.I t was built by Karamanid Emirate. It is a masterpiece that could have reached this time. Its length is 27m. and its width is 4.70 m. The future of the historical bridge is a tragedy as it is going to be under the Ermenek Dam which is being constructed nowadays. There is a historical building called Mennan Castle in Nısa Neighbourhood near Görmeli. Mennan means the place where to take shelter in. The castle was built with strict rocks on a perpendicular mountain. It is the castle that Karamanid snatched it to Ottoman Gedik Ahmet Pasha and as a result of this Pir Ahmet Bey committed suicide in it. The castle looks ruins at the moment, it was ruined by the treasure hunters. The authorities did not attach enough importance to this historical building and it has been suffering for years.

You can taste traditional watery meal called Batırma. It is consisted of small wheat pieces, tomato, pepper, parsley, sesame, walnut. These contents are mixed and kneaded with cold water. It is served with fresh peppers, cucumbers, boiled cabbages, eggplants, tomatoes and boiled grape leaves. There is also another traditional food called Tarhana. It can be made with both minced meat and potatoes. The ingredient is mixed with wheat, tomato sauce, onion, pepper and parsley. The mixture is kneaded and then it is shaped like a palm. The pieces are grilled on oak coal. The people get up so early and most of them go to their fields or take their animals to pastures or mountains.

The hills and lower sides of Görmeli is not very well formed for farming. Inhabitants mostly growing-selling fruits,vegetables, dairy products or stock breeding. "Görmeli's Grapes" are very famous, there are many grapes gardens in all fields, but also apple, fig, walnut, pomegranate trees are growing too. Every family has animals, several goats ,a cow, chickens. Sheep isn't preferred by the peasants as this animal can not adapt mountainous land. In addition the peasants don't eat sheep meat. Recent years,people grow vaccinated-special fruit saplings on the higher plateaus of the village. This economic activity also contributes budget of village box.
