[edit] Location

Futtsu is located south-southwest of the city of Chiba, east of Yokohama, nearly east of Kawasaki and almost south of the capital city of Tokyo.

[edit] History

According to Victory at Sea (H. Saloman and R. Hanser, Doubleday, 1959, which is a questionable source and certainly biased as a historical account), Futtsu was on Aug 30, 1945 the site of the initial Allied landing on the Japanese mainland following the declared surrender. This was a test whether the Japanese would obey the Emperor's surrender order. There was no resistance.

[edit] Transportation

Futtsu has two interchanges (Futtsu-Chūō and Futtsu-Geoka) with the Tateyama Expressway and is the southermost terminus, it has a link with a lesser expressway with one of the two interchanges called Futtsu-Kanaya. Futtsu are also connected with routes 16 (connecting Tokyo and Chiba), 127 and 465 and prefectural routes 88, 90, 93, 157, 158, 159, 163, 182, 236, 255 and 256.

[edit] Sister city

As designated by Sister Cities International, Inc. (SCI), Carlsbad (California) is a sister city.
