[edit] What my Wikipedia account is for
My first day as a Wikipedian (that is an account owner) and not just a user taught me a lot. I was blocked twice: first quite reasonably for an allegedly offensive name (therefore I do not cite it here) then unreasonably for daring to create another account on the same day - the given reason was "creating an account with the sole purpose of stalking" (the admin probably wrongly believed he has telepathic powers). That admin was soon afterwards desysopped for "his poor judgment, uncommunicativeness, wheel warring, and other misuses of administrator tools including rollback and blocking powers" but this did not unmake my initial frustrating experience. In spite of two bad starts on Wikipedia, I state here: this account has the sole purpose to help Wikipedia become even better. I hope I may be third time lucky.
Now, when the user whose many sockpuppets I tracked (and got five of them plus several IP numbers blocked) is finally banned, I have more time to improve the articles I like to work on. I also found anti-vandalism patrol an interesting passtime. The anti-vandal robots are doing a good job but are leaving many minor and sneaky vandalisms undetected. That'a why we, the human beings, are still needed, even in this field :-)
I also believe the userboxes are a funny way to show to the world as much as a user wishes to say about him/herself. Alas, recently an anti-userbox campaign has beed started on Wikipedia. Luckily, it seems a kind of consensus has been reached.
Recently, I concentrate mostly on editing several articles on science. My choice is rather broad (fundamental and applied physics, climatology and even history) but that is simply because I have diverse scientific interests. Generally it's a lot of fun, unless one meets an uneducable editor with strong but unsubstantiated opinions. Finding verifiable sources for obvious facts which are then nitpicked as "not good enough" by someone who has no scholarly sources at all to support his opinions is even more tedious than writing grant proposals ;-)
