[edit] Rewrite and rename

I believe this article focusses unfairly on claims of nationhood, to the neglect of describing the commune itself and it's place in the socio-political climate of the time. If it's truly notable there ought to be a lot more reaction from politicians and leaders too, it's not an every day occurence after all. And what was the role of the Mutoid Waste Company? Did the squatters go on to become new age travellers? Why did it die out?

With regards to the name, I propose that a more neutral name be chosen, such as Freston Road squat or Freston Road, London. Comments? --kingboyk 18:48, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

I disagree with moving - or at the very least, keep it as redirects. I do remember it from the time, and no-one ever referred to it as anything other than "Frestonia". The name was famous enough that the modern building complex that replaced the demolished squat kept the Frestonia name. I agree that more could be done to focus on the significance in 70s culture (Frestonia was a major focal point of the 70s underground, with bands such as the Clash filming & recording there) as opposed to the nationhood aspect; however, the nationhood angle is probably more significant that, say, Sealand, given the unique legal status of the squat (as far as I know, the only micronation that's ever had it's de facto independence recognised in the courts, if you discount Sealand's dubious claims) — iridescent (talk to me!) 19:33, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Ear Studios (aka The People's Hall) was part of the Frestonia complex; 'Should I Stay...', 'Inoculated City', 'Know Your Rights', 'Ghetto Defendant' and 'Overpowered by Funk' were recorded there, along with their accompanying film. The actual production of Combat Rock & recording of the rest of the album was done at Electric Ladyland. See [1] — iridescent (talk to me!) 23:24, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
