[edit] Name of the square during Russian rule
Dear Steelmate, please stop blindly reverting my edits. The square was named after Paskevich who once served as the Viceroy of the Caucasus with his residence at Tbilisi and was bestowed with the title of Count Erivansky. There was a well-established practice to name the squares and streets in the viceregal capitals after Russian viceroys and governors. Your reference say nothing about the origin of the square's name, but only provides its literal (and imprecise) translation from Russian. Hope this helps, --KoberTalk 20:30, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Dear Kober are you suggesting that Erivan has nothing to do with Yerevan? It is on Pashkecihc's page that references Erivan to Yerevan, please check it out, and let's come to mutual conclusion and avoid the edit wars. Steelmate (talk) 20:54, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

- What are you talking about? The title of Graf Erivansky was conferred upon Paskevich due to his capture of Erivan from Iranian army. The square in Tbilisi (which was a viceregal capital) was named after him. What is unblievable in this? Do you really think that a central square in the major provincial capital was named after Erivan which was nothing but a small fortified town in the 1820s? I can give you dozens of references for that, but they are in Georgian and I know for sure you won't believe them. What do you actually want? --KoberTalk 21:08, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Renaming the article
According to this Wikipedia rule Wikipedia:Naming_conventions : "article naming should prefer what the greatest number of English speakers would most easily recognize..." I searched Google News, non of them have hits for "Tbilisi Tavisuplebis Moedani", but many hits for "Tbilisi, Freedom Square". Therefore think the article should be renamed to reflect name known to English speaking readers to "Freedom Square, Tbilisi". Any objections? Steelmate (talk) 18:26, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Erivan Square vs Erivansky Square
Erivan Square is english name vs Erivansky - is transliteration form russian word, not even georgian. Per wikipedia rule, the english words should be used in english wikipedia, and also search of google books suggest that englsih writers refer to this as Erivan Square. - Have you already researched the subject per your promise or just missed edit warring against "discredited Georgian users" and "warm Georgian hospitality"? --KoberTalk 19:56, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

- I have not resisted your recent move to Freedom Square and it was not me who had moved the article to a Georgian transliteration. I am sure you know this perfectly well. So, your accusation of "baseless georgian POV pushing" is nothing but a baseless anti-Georgian POV and an unprovoked personal attack.--KoberTalk 20:35, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

- You was resisting for the english name Erivan Square, vs georgian trabsliteration Erivansky moedani (or some hybrid that you made Erivansky Square). Anyway, as we are clear on those topics now, I consider discussion is over, and further let's not get things personnaly and do things in interests of Wikipedia.
