Free Speech Coalition

The Free Speech Coalition is a trade association of the pornography and adult entertainment industry in the United States. Founded in 1991, it opposes the passage and enforcement of censorship and obscenity laws.
The Free Speech Coalition is the successor of the Adult Film Association of America.
The organization initiated Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition, which in 2002 the US Supreme Court decided in the Coalition's favor, overturning as unconstitutional parts of the Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996.
Issues in which the Free Speech Coalition is currently involved include:
- challenging 2257 regulations in court (Free Speech Coalition v. Gonzales)
- opposing the proposed .xxx top-level domain
- rebutting claims of pornography addiction and harmful "secondary effects" of pornography
- opposing Utah's Child Protection Registry Act
The group performs lobbying in the state of California, and is in the process of beginning lobbying on a federal level.
