He currently holds the American record for competing in nine Tours de France bicycle races from 1992 to 2000.
-- This statement was partially correct when written (he tied the record), and has since changed to completely incorrect. With the completion of the 2006 Tour de France, George Hincapie now holds the record. According to http://www.letour.fr:
