Franck Silvestre (born April 5, 1967 in Paris) is a French former footballer.

[edit] Biography

Franck Silvestre began his career at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in 1985. In 1987, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard is relegated in French second division. But his team managed to get into Ligue 1 and to the final of Coupe de France but lost against FC Metz.1988 is a successful year for Silvestre because he also won UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship with France national under-21 football team.

Although he did not play for a big team, Michel Platini gave his chance to Silvestre. His first cap with France is in 1989 against the Republic of Ireland and he was also selected for 1992 European Football Championship but remained on the bench.

In 1993, he signed for Guy Roux and AJ Auxerre where he made up for William Prunier who left the team. During his years in Auxerre he played along Frank Verlaat, Laurent Blanc and Frédéric Danjou as central defender and won several titles in France and played UEFA Champions League.

He signed in 1998 with Montpellier HSC where he scored important goals and became captain. He left in 2003 for SC Bastia which he helped saving from relegation. At the end of the season he signed for SK Sturm Graz in Austia.

He came back in France in January 2006 with FC Sète in Ligue 2 but did not manage to save the club from relegation.

He is the cousin of Manchester United player Mikaël Silvestre.
