Francisco Rebollo

Francisco Rebollo is the most senior Associate Justice among the current five members of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. Appointed by Governor Carlos Romero Barceló a quarter century ago, Rebollo has served under Chief Justices Víctor Pons, José Andreu García, and Federico Hernández Denton, as well as Chief Justice Miriam Naveira, in addition to having served as acting Chief Justice himself.
Prior to joining the Supreme Court, he served as a Superior Court judge and as an attorney in private practice.
Upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70 in August 2008, the vacancy he will create will probably remain unfilled until a new governor is sworn in January, 2009. A prior vacancy, created by the mandatory retirement of Associate Justice Baltasar Corrada del Rio in April, 2005, has remained unfilled due to an impasse between pro-commonwealth Governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá and pro-statehood Senate President Kenneth McClintock, who has announced that in addition to all other qualifications, the two vacancies created by both pro-statehood justices must be filled by nominees with similar ideological leanings.
On April 30, 2008, in a letter to Governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá, he made public his retirement before August 2008.
