[edit] Points scored

Career points scored seems like a common statistic used in these kinds of displays. Would it be ok for me to add this in?

What sort of knock-on effect would this have for all the existing drivers using this template?

I agree that it would be a useful statistic; in fact, it could probably take the place of "fastest laps". It would break every instance of the template, of course, so whoever makes the change will have to browse Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Former F1 driver and fix all the articles. — Dan | Talk 22:30, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
Is it OK to put a title reference to "F1 career" or something? Some of the people who were F1 drivers were drivers in other series as well, but the infobox doesn't announce itself as only particular to their F1 career, so it looks like they only raced 4 times in their life. John Fitch (driver) for instance. Gzuckier 22:27, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
I just put Formula One Career there. Majin Izlude 00:54, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Update: Following discussion here and at WP:F1 I have added in a Points field. This will remain hidden until filled, so shouldn't break the box on any page until the data is updated. Pyrope 07:01, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Default values

I just added default values for some of the template parameters, namely PAGENAME for Name, and 0 for WDCs/Wins/Podiums/Poles/Fastest laps. Now adding infoboxes for drivers who were not so successful in F1 will be easier! --Majin Izlude talk 05:06, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Here is an example of the template code in the Danny Sullivan article:

Now I am adding some code to hide the "First Win" and "Last Win" stats if they are not defined (which they shouldn't be if the driver never won any races). I've already done this at Template:F1 driver without any complaints. The only problem with it is that it tends to leave a small gap between "First race" and "Last race" in the infobox. Tell me what you think of it... Majin Izlude talk 14:44, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adjustments: April 2007

Hi. I just altered the format to allow both driver name and nationality to be hidden where multiple infoboxes are used. This arose in the fact that, for a good few drivers, their F1 involvement was by far the least significant part of their motorsport involvement. In these cases the format as it was forced the F1 infoboxto be the top box, which I felt didn't reflect their proper significance. One downside of these changes is that I had to remove the default vale for the name field to make it work. I'll be skimming through F1 driver articles to check where this may have broken the box, but even where this has occurred all that will have happened is that the name will be missing, and there will not be any error message displayed, so it shouldn't have that much of an impact.
