Fort James Jackson, also known as Fort Jackson Maritime Museum or Fort Oglethorpe is fort built during 1808-1812 that protected Savannah, Georgia.
During the American Civil War it was shelled by a ship captained by escaped slave Robert Smalls.
William T. Sherman captured Savannah by land, not by sea.
It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2000.[2][3]
It is located at 1 Fort Jackson Road,[3] or on Islands Expressway.[2]
