Foretold in the Language of Dreams is a 2002 album by Natacha Atlas and Marc Eagleton. It represents a departure from Natacha Atlas' usual music by being more ambient in style.
'Foretold In The Language Of Dreams' is a stream of vivid or glimpsed, hazy images, created by Atlas, her co-producer Marc Eagleton, and a varying cast of musicians. If, in her mightily successful previous solo albums and singles, there has been a characteristic Natacha Atlas sound, it's of her soaring, wind-blown, exquisitely microtonal vocals over massive middle-eastern rooted grooves So the calm, shimmering heat-haze of her new album might appear a radical change of direction. But the heartof Arabic music is reflective, philosophical and poetic, and 'Foretold in the Language of Dreams' is a creature of that quiet eye, both in the music and in Atlas herself.
Despite the usual overall "Oriental" feel of the CD, 'Foretold in the Language of Dreams' includes collaborations with a string of exciting musicians with whom she has never worked previously - Andrew Cronshaw on zither (apparently in himself a source of inspiration to Atlas), Syrian qanun player Abdullah Chhadeh, and most satisfyingly, two tracks with the Greek band Avaton. Despite the liner notes claims of "computer malarkey" being employed, the overall sound is acoustic, a stark contrast to her previous work.
