FontForge (formerly known as PfaEdit) is a typeface (font) editor program developed by George Williams. It supports several font formats like TrueType, PostScript, OpenType, CID-keyed, multi-master, CFF, SVG, BDF, Datafork TrueType, etc. Fontforge is free software and is distributed under the BSD license. The program can create or convert fonts from one format to another, and implements its own scripting language which can be used for automating format conversions and other transformations. Fonts created with FontForge can be stored in a font-neutral format called “spline font database files” using the .sfd extension, or exported in a variety of font formats. FontForge is available for several operating systems and is localized in several languages.
Among other things, FontForge is used as a basis for building fonts (see list below). FontForge uses FreeType for rendering.
